missing my sisters like crazy 

and being a member of executive board is an honor that has to be earned. If you don’t participate in your chapter, don’t have the audacity to apply for a position. You already aren’t a contributing member so why would you apply to have added responsibility? That is irresponsible and offensive to your sisters who are dedicated.

Some people just grind my gears… 

I am so tired of the stereotypes surrounding sorority women and fraternity men. While there is definitely a person or two on every campus who embody certain characteristics, it is not a fair picture of Greek life in general.

Nobody mentions the efforts that chapters go through to enrich the lives of its members. Every week at chapter we have a “learning through values” seminar based on the founding values of integrity, life long commitment, honor and respect, personal and intellectual growth, philanthropic service to others and sincere friendship. My favorite quote about Greek life is “These letters don’t make me better than you, they make me better than I used to be.” I agree with this statement 100%. The amount of personal growth I have gone through because of my organization is astounds me. I am a better woman, scholar and friend because of all I have been taught and shown.

While ill informed individuals may claim that being in a sorority is “paying for your friends”, they just don’t understand what it feels like to be in a sisterhood. I have a place on campus where I know am I always welcome. I have a home full of people truly concerned about my well being and always on my side. The people I have met through my organization have changed my life so much and are the reason my transition to college has been so enjoyable. They are people who share my values and have similar goals. They are my sisters. And if you consider that paying for friends, then I got one heck of a bargain…
